Return to Yarm Roll Call

The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

Died at home on 14 Mar 1917 and included on Egglescliffe’s Memorial and was living there on enlistment. He was born in Yarm and is buried in Yarm Cemetery and that is probably why he was eventually included on Yarms war memorial. He was not listed on the original stone but weas included on the parish church tablet in 1952 and copied onto the new memorial tablets in 1962.

His parents John and Martha Cordingley, had two daughters and four sons living with them in Yarm High Street in 1911. John worked at the skin yards as a hyde and skin mart manager and Martha was a confectoner assisted by daughters Beatrice and Florence working from home. Harry was born in Yarm in 1899 whilst the family were living in Yarm. He signed up in Stockton at the age of 16. It is recorded that he died in Tynemouth aged 18. The family is recorded as living at Orchard House, Egglescliffe Village, Co. Durham after the war.
